January, the month named for the two-faced Roman god of gates and transitions, has been for me a time for musings on past, present and future. At New Year’s, we customarily look back on the past and plan for the future. Of course, the preceding year has been for most of us one of the most extraordinary and trying in memory and many have been happy to see it pass.
